Flags wave to open new season of racing across Eastern Ontario

A new season of racing gets underway in May, with the checkered flag in sight at dirt tracks and waterways across the region. 

The Brockville Ontario Speedway (BOS), celebrates 30 years this season as drivers rumble toward the starting gate and racing fans line up for season tickets.

The BOS is a revered hub for motorsport enthusiasts. Featuring a dirt track oval, the speedway sets the stage for racing events. Its clay surface provides an optimal track for drivers to exhibit their prowess across various car classes, including modifieds, street stocks, and the sportsman division. 

From the onset of spring to the cool days of fall, Brockville Ontario Speedway’s racing season buzzes with activity, offering a diverse array of events. These include weekly races alongside special competitions and series races, drawing participants and spectators from the local community and beyond. Collaborations with regional racing associations and touring series enrich the speedway’s calendar, ensuring an exciting lineup for racing aficionados.

Ogilvie’s Auto & Fleet Triple Crown Series for Small Block and Sportsman-Modifieds will be in the lineup this season, with opening day slated for Saturday, May 18. The return of the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series, as well as Sportsman and touring NLMA Late Models, is on tap for Wednesday, July 24.

Don’t miss the 358 Modifieds, Outlaw 200 Mini Series, Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club, Karts, Street Stocks and more are all part of this year’s super stoked agenda.

The Cornwall Motor Speedway – one of the best places in Eastern Ontario for family entertainment – has one of the premier dirt track facilities in North America. 

The speedway stands as a cornerstone of the region’s motorsport scene. With its iconic dirt track oval, the Cornwall Speedway is renowned for delivering heart-pounding racing action. The track’s clay surface sets the stage for thrilling competitions, featuring a variety of racing that entices both seasoned local racers and talent from neighbouring regions.

Cornwall runs the gamut from the Mini-Stock to 358 Modifieds, as this year marks the 55th season of operation. There is lots of fun in store, with the season opener slated for Sunday, May 19.

Watch for the Short Track Super Series Aug. 7 with this 75-lap feature winner earning a $10,000 prize.  It will be the first time that the Short Track has made a pit stop in Cornwall. 

Keep your eyes on their website as there will be more special events throughout the season, including the fifth edition of the Canadian Super DIRT Weekend in October.

Shannonville Motorsport Park is having a 50th anniversary in 2024 and what better way to celebrate than with a full slate of excitement for the entire family.

The facility was built in 1974 by John Nelson, a motorcycle and racing enthusiast. He operated a motorcycle shop in Toronto and built the track to organize motorcycle racing events. The original Nelson track was expanded over the years and can now be used in four different configurations. The facility also includes a drag strip and skidpad.

It’s a premier destination for motorsport enthusiasts, boasting a variety of racetracks including the Fabi Circuit, and the Pro Circuit, the park caters to a diverse range of motorsport activities. If hydroplane racing is more your speed, check this one out. The 1000 Islands Regatta and Festival takes place Friday, June 28 to Sunday, June 30, at Brockville’s Blockhouse Island. Legendary Canadian rockers, 54-40 will kick off the event on Friday as they captivate the audience with their timeless hits of the 1980s. On Saturday, the spotlight will shine on Canadian rocker Ian Thornley and Big Wreck, whose career spans decades and has been giving audiences an unforgettable show for years.  

This is the 15th annual Brockville Hydroplane Festival with unforgettable racing, live music and a kids’ zone with vendors and lots of food. 

The regatta attracts participants and spectators from both sides of the border and beyond, making it a significant event in the region’s boating and racing calendar. The races often include hydroplanes, offshore powerboats, and other high-performance boats, showcasing a range of thrilling waterborne competitions. 

In addition to the races, the 1000 Islands Regatta often includes festivities and events for attendees, creating a vibrant atmosphere along the riverbanks and in nearby communities. It serves as both a sporting competition and a celebration of the rich heritage of the Thousand Islands region.
